Welcome...

to the John Thiel
web site -
This web site
is for the purposes of communication and dissemination of information to friends,
family, and organizations with which we all are connected.
I am a member
of a large family and patriarch of many. I have many interests and I am active
in several organizations. Therefore, there is need to have bulletin board
access.
Web site contents -
Junior Golf -
As part of the Optimist International
Golf Championships, we provide four qualifying tournaments for junior golfers to
earn the passage to compete internationally at the PGA National in West Palm
Beach Gardens, Florida.
Senior Golf - I have part of the organizational workings of a new golf
league
called the Stymie Cup League.
This group consists of 12 senior golfers with undisclosed handicaps and who
enjoy the fraternity of golf and delight in donating quarters to supplement my
retirement (I keep the books for the league.) Two other leagues are played at
Teetering Rocks and I keep the handicaps for them as well. I am currently
looking for someone to take over the books for the Monday league.
Optimist - I am an active member of the Southside
KC Optimist Club and
plan to use
this site to help promote Optimist activities for youth. Since I am currently
serving as president of the Club, some space will be used to communicate with
members and other Optimist International Organizations.
Roots - A lot of people have asked "where did you come from?"
Some have added descriptive phrases and even others have suggested answers, but
my own curiosity has prompted me to begin research of the family tree. This also
is a call to those who may be from the same branch to contact me, however embarrassing,
with information so that I can fill in the
missing leaves or nuts, in case we are of the oaken variety.
Interests
- This page is for looking at challenges and for sharing experiences that
mean or have had an impact in my life and work. I should like to reserve some
space for editorializing about those everyday encounters that often turn out to
be structural patterns of living. Habits! We are in charge of our own destiny
and that includes those who share our community.
Stymie League - This is a golf
league made up of a group of guys who wanted to start their own league to play
area courses. The group shares the responsibility for choosing and scheduling
the games of challenge. The group uses the league to express their love of golf,
like challenges, and enjoy each others company. The name refers to the situation
on the green, similar to the 'snooker' shot in pool, that was corrected when
marking the ball on the green was instituted.
